What Good Is A Recovery System That Does Not Work

I've been buying Dell PCs and laptops for over 20 years. I can say with confidence I will never buy another. I have a 15" XPS that is critical for my work. A recent Windows upgrade hosed a handful of critical apps. When I tried to uninstall the windows update, windows decided to reboot in the middle of the uninstall. Result: No more bootup.

No worries. I'll just log on and get the original image and rebuild from scratch. That is supposed to be easy with the OS recovery tool. Well Boy-Howdy. That "We are unable to connect to back-end" message is not only cryptic, but is common. Moderators say it is a Dell Server problem. OK, great, so who the heck is there that I can tell? For two days I've been trying. Out of warrantee so I can only use the WhatsApp to chat. They have very limited things they can do and can't address the problem.

The fact that no one from Dell will ever see this message here tells me all I need to know. I'll be replacing the XPS that I really love, but not with a Dell

The Dell OS tool is not the factory image -- it's a standard Microsoft Windows 10 image.

You can get the same thing by using the Windows media creation tool:
