Windows Boot Manager screen does not display

I have a new XPS 17 9710. I installed my favorite image backup tool, Macrium Reflect. One of the things Reflect lets you do is to create an entry in the Windows Boot Manager screen so that when you boot your system you get the choice of booting Windows 10 or Macrium Reflect's rescue environment (based on WinRE).

After installing the boot menu entry and rebooting, I expected to see the normal Windows Boot Manager screen after the spinning circle of dots (the light blue screen with the two choices). Instead I got a grayish black screen with nothing on it. It sat there for the duration of the boot manager screen timeout of 10 seconds and then proceeded to boot Windows 10.

I know the screen is there because if I repeat the exercise and when I get to the black/gray screen I use the down arrow to select Macrium Reflect and hit enter, Reflect does in fact boot up.

So, the screen is there, it just doesn't display.

I guessed its maybe an Intel HD Graphics video driver issue. As a test, I deleted the Intel device from device manager and re-scanned the system for hardware, A Microsoft Basic video adapter got installed. Then I rebooted and now, instead of the black/gray screen, I actually see the boot manager screen like I am supposed to. I re-installed the Intel display driver and rebooted and again, the screen is there but does not display.

So, any ideas? Thanks for your help.

I am also experiencing this problem.

I also figured that the boot menu is there. I also noticed that if I touch the touchpad -  mouse cursor appears and if I am lucky I can even click the invisible menu item.

As a workaround I am currently using a legacy boot menu - the old text-based black-and-white menu.

@rlcronin Have you been able to get your issue fixed somehow?

Installing the latest Intel graphics beta driver fixed it for me. I apologize for forgetting to post that information back here once I discovered the solution.

Just a short update: I used Intel's Driver and Support Assistant tool to update my graphic drivers - this solved the issue. However, it did display a warning saying it will replace the OEM driver supplied by Dell. So I really hope Dell can come up with the fixed version of their driver as well

I can't imagine Dell does anything other than pass along the stock Intel driver. I'm guessing that they will do that just as soon as the updated Intel driver exits beta.
