XPS 13 7390 hanging for hours in Dell Update (Windows 10)

Hi,

I bought my XPS 7390 in November 2019. Last night at the prompting of Dell Support Assist I plugged my laptop in and told it to proceed with all required and recommended updates. This included a BIOS update.

This morning I woke to the following screen: installing updates (1 of 1), about 1/3 done, but with no further progression. My wifi had disconnected for some reason, not sure if that caused the problem. I now need may laptop for work and need to move it from my bedroom to my office. But I didn't want to unplug AC in case this was the BIOS update.

So I pressed "cancel". I know have the following screen for an hour. Nothing has happened except the "cancel" button has become greyed out.

This is hugely frustrating. I need my laptop for work and I'm about to miss a meeting because the audio is still messed up and I can't restart the computer (or can I?).

Any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you.update.PNG

Update: in private messages Dell told me that I could safely close the Dell Update App, shut down, and move to my office. Upon first restart things worked fine but it seemed no updates had been registered. When I restarted again to fix an unrelated issue, now it seems the recommended updates have been installed and I am only prompted to install the required BIOS and SupportAssist OS recovery tools. Now trying to decide whether to do this via SupportAssist or manually given the apparent instability of some of the support software.
