XPS 13 9310, BIOS Turbo Boost stuck on Disabled

I arrived home from a vacation to see what I thought would be a happy surprise. Dell finally published an updated BIOS to fix the problem with the blinking charging light and flickering screen when Turbo Mode is enabled.

Well, the joke's on us.

After updating the BIOS, I went to the setup screen and reenabled Turbo Boost. However, after saving the changes, the setting becomes unset. Thinking that might just be a display glitch I exited and rebooted, entering the setup again.  Nope, the setting became unset.

Dell, you have failed to deliver an advertised feature for which I paid. I want compensation.

Problem: XPS 13 9310 and XPS 13 9305 users may be unable to change some BIOS options after upgrading the BIOS to versions 3.0.3 or 1.0.8.

Discussion:
XPS 13 9310 = Install BIOS 3.1.0

XPS 13 9305 = Install BIOS 1.0.9

I reset the BIOS configuration to factory settings and confirmed that Turbo Boost is off by default, where it used to be on by default. The setting cannot be changed.

I can confirm that Dell latest bios firmware (3.0.3) does not allow to enable Turbo boost feature.

Please Dell correct that issue as son as possible.

I tested my device and I don't have this problem.

I'm one of the lucky guys who are allowed to witness a flimmer show for free everytime Intel Turbo Boost goes off, so I turned it off since months...the Engineers are also working on it since months...

You should try to turn on TurboBoost through CMD or helpful programs like TrottleStop. I would also try to turn off & on IntelSpeedStep because it's necessary for TurboBoost.

I have provided ALL requested information. I have no idea what you're talking about. You have my service tag. As requested, I sent a video of the problem actually happening.

What else do you want?

In your own time. The whole turbo boost situation has been a slow-motion absurdist train wreck for months now. Why change?

So... with the first week of July in progress, not only is the turbo boost fix we were promised in the first week of May still not here, things have gotten worse.

Nice going, Dell.

Hi Earl,

When you write "things have gotten worse", what do you mean exactly?

Thanks a lot.

I'm going to call Dell support and would like be able to tell us about what is observed after the BIOS update.

I have not updated my BIOS yet, maybe I should wait...

Regards,

Exactly as I said in the first posting: Previously, turbo boost could be enabled, but the screen would flicker and the light would blink.  Now, the option is disabled altogether.

If you contact them, please feel free to refer to my . I have sent Dell a video of the problem and it should be on that ticket.

One can not enable TurboBoost in the BIOS setup anymore after installing the latest firmware version.

That is crystal clear.

Thanks for the precision Earl.

I have called Dell Support and they confirmed to me that no other fix would be deployed to correct the issue. Disabling turbo boost is the only solution Dell can offer.

I have asked them for returning the laptop and getting my money back.

Dell does not behave correctly with its customers, I am really disappointed.

That is not what I have heard from Dell. @DELL-Cares continues to tell me to hang on.

On the other hand, if you are correct, then this would represent a "defect in material/workmanship" and would be covered by warranty. In that case, those of us outside of the return window would be due a replacement. Since all laptops of this model have the same defect, they'd have to provide a new model without this problem.

That's huge price tag.
