XPS 13 9350 BIOS CPU fan setting
My XPS 13 9350 frequently freezes when I watch HD videos. I think I figured out why and thus I am providing my feedback to the team who wrote BIOS for this model for considerations in next update.
I monitored CPU fan and CPU temperature and found my CPU fan would not be triggered unless the CPU temperature is around 80C or higher. But there is also a self protection mechanism there I guess so that the computer stops working when temperature is too high. I think the protective temperature threshold has been set at around 80C, too. So A LOT OF TIMES screen freeze due to overheat before the fan even started.
Even the temperature of the above two functions were set equal, I guess the protective component checks CPU temp more frequently than the trigger function of CPU fan, so it would shut down the laptop before CPU fan was aware of anything.
I had been play around with time issue for a while, I did all of the trouble shooting since there was a freeze screen issue and I think the above feedback is close to the reason for the issue. I hope DELL team could look into this since XPS supposed to be a higher end series. Frankly I have started to actively looking for high end Thinkpad models since this issue. DELL, please don't let me down.
