XPS 13 9365, BIOS 2.4.1 Boot Issues

I typically run updates pretty frequently, but didn't install BIOS 2.4.1 for the XPS 9365 (along with other updates) until just recently. Soon after, I noticed that there were boot issues where the Dell logo would appear, but Windows 10 would never start loading. I would then have to hold the power button down long enough to shut down, then power it back on and it would boot.

This morning, I installed the previous BIOS version 2.3.1 and so far, it seems like the boot issue is gone.

So, I think there might be an issue with the 2.4.1 BIOS release.

There will be a new bios (2.8.0) with new Ucodes etc. So that may solve this problem. My advice is to keep up with the boot problem until the new bios is available.

For more info regarding security statements and bios'es see: https://www.dell.com/support/article/no/no/nodhs1/sln317122/dsa-2019-072-dell-client-platform-security-update-for-intel-sa-00213-intel-sa-00223-og-intel-sa-00233?lang=no

I still have this problem with v2.6.2. Hopefully 2.8.0 will fix it...

Apologies for the delay in providing an update but wanted to ensure I had everything backed-up before I upgraded the BIOS.

So I am now on 2.6.2 and the same problem occurs

I have also reset the BIOS defaults but this has also made no difference.

Is anyone else still having the same problem ?

Thanks,

David

Yes, I still have the problem with this BIOS version.  First boot hangs (Dell logo, Bitlocker, then Dell logo WITHOUT rotating circle of dots).   Need to power off.   Second boots proceeds normally (Dell logo, Bitlocker, Dell logo WITH rotating circle, and finally, Windows log in).   Is this the same that you experience?

BMorgenthstein,

Have you rolled back the bios version to the previous one and check to see if the issue remains?  Your information shows BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. 2.6.2, 4/20/2019. Rollback to the previous bios version.

Jesse,

The problem started after a Windows update with Bios 2.2.0.  I updated to 2.3.1 with no change. Then tried 2.4.1 when that came out with no effect.  I then, of course, tried 2.6.2 and there was no change either.  The 2.6.2 improved a bit in that the POST/boot process (first dell logo) was faster, so I've stuck with it.  I haven't tried rolling back.  I have all of the versions so I may give it a try.   Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Thanks

Bob.

Contributing because I've had this issue as well with my DELL XPS 13 9365, for a few months now (not sure which BIOS it first started happening with). Cold booting would lead to the Dell logo, but windows would not load. Entering UEFI and rebooting with BIOS defaults, or turning the computer off by pressing the power button and rebooting, would load properly. No error codes, hardware and software tests both turned up nothing.

Disabling fast startup, as Saltgrass suggested, fixed this issue for me.

I had the same issue but my arose when I updated to BIOS 2.6.2. I was behind a few BIOS upgrades so I did not experience the issue before.

I solved my problem by running the installing the file Chipset_Driver_5WW0H_WN32_10.1.17695.8086_A03_03 which the driver lookup tool in the Dell Support website said I needed. I had tried turning off Fast Startup as stated in another post, but that did not help. It was not until I installed the chipset driver that the problem disappeared.

The unusual aspect is when I first ran SupportAssist it had ~10 updates, of which one was the same chipset driver. Therefore, even if you think it has been installed, download it and launch it from your PC and make that your last installation before shutting down and restarting your laptop.

LoveWaze,

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it didn't work for me.   The search continues....

I appreciate you taking the time to help!

I've been having the same booting issue for months now, and it's frustrating.  The problem occurs when my XPS goes to sleep, or if I use the windows shut down function.  Every time I reboot, I have to wait for the Dell logo, then manually power down by pressing the power button, then pressing the power button again to boot the machine.  I am on and off my machine multiple times per day and this issue is frustrating and time consuming.  After the reboot the system alerts me that 1) the system has been updated, and 2) there are more updates to install.

How do I fix this problem, it's driving me nuts!

Yes, still having the issue and my machine is out of warranty, so they want to charge me to fix it.  I'm not happy!

Does the 2.10.0 update resolve this issue.  I don't want to update without knowing that
