I have the same problem but for Dell precision 5540, and Dell support weren't able to help me either. Did anyone solve it ?

Update December 15 =

After doing all my investigation, I realised that the problems is not a Dell problem but mine. To help other people who will had the same problem I'll explained it in some words:

Dell create two partitions for Ubuntu users: Dell restore partition and Ubuntu. When you badly upgrade your Ubuntu, you erase the Dell recovery partition and some files from the Ubuntu partition.

The best way to resolve the problem is to zip your data, put it in a USB using the root and then restore your system, upgrade your Ubuntu and then put your data without .config files.

Thank you for your support and have a nice day.

Hi, a very similar thing has happened to me. I have XPS 13 Linux and one day I just wasn't boot up. Even when I try to select "Reset OS to Factory Defaults" I'm taken to a screen that says "(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system".

What should I do?

I had to take it to a laptop repair shop in the end. What they told me had happened was that I'd agreed to a software update, but that the update was for the newest version of Ubuntu, which I didn't have. This caused a file corruption. But the boys at the repair shop fixed it in the end, which was the main thing.

I couldn't fix it myself. And Dell support weren't able to help me either. So I took it to a laptop repair shop and they fixed it.

I had the same problem and it got resolved after entering to the BIOS pressing F2 while rebooting, and clicking restore settings.
