You have the option of a refund or a complete system replacement -- I would be very leery of allowing a mainboard replacement on a brand new system.  Either of the other two options is less risky.

At a minimum, ask for an assurance that the mainboard can be replaced in a short time period -- this is a brand-new system and system availability has been very limited.  I can't imagine repair parts being much more readily available.

You may be better off with a refund/re-order -- that way your funds are not tied up waiting for the parts or a replacement system.

And yes, though it's disappointing, it's not entirely unusual for a brand-new model to have issues -- and just as it's usually wise to avoid purchasing a new model car in its first year, it's equally wise to wait a bit before purchasing a brand-new model of notebook.

Thanks for the response.  That's part of the issue of me weighing the options though is a refund takes up to 15 business days after they receive the item back based on a conversation I had with support yesterday.  Getting a replacement wouldn't occur until middle of August according to them as well.  So since their 8-10 business day estimate of them replacing the board seemed to be the quickest option out of the three, I was leaning towards just going that route.

But now you are making me rethink this again lol.

Just bear in mind the 30 day clock on a return starts clicking on the date of shipment -- after the 30 day mark, repair will be the only option.

Good point.  It shipped on 6/21.   I still haven't received the empty FedEx box so I still could make the decision to refund or replace and just wait it out.   If you were in my shoes, which would you do?  I'm just trying to wrap my head around worst case if I go ahead and send it in for repair.  I suppose worst case is I keep having issues and having to send it back in over and over?  Or something worse?

Absent an immediate need for the system, I'd return for a refund and re-order.  I don't think setting for a replacement system will take any less time, and I would not take a replacement of the mainboard on a brand new system any more than I'd accept an engine or transmission replacement (or battery on an EV) on a car just a week or so old.

If the need is immediate, line up an acceptable replacement system -- Dell is not the only player in this market;  there are plenty of alternatives, one or more of which may be in better supply.

Wait, so ask for a refund and re-order the same laptop?  Or ask for a replacement and send back the existing one?  The need is not immediate either way.  I'm not even against returning it and putting in an order for the regular XPS 13 which may be a bit less of a gamble.  I don't necessarily need the power the Plus has but I do like the keyboard.

Yep I had the issue with even the replacement they issued me so I returned them both and am getting a refund.

I am having this exact same issue - it's an issue with the video card right? Did you end up returning it and reordering and buying a new one?

I to am having fan noise issues with my new XPS 9320, loud grinding sound upon startup, however its smooth after that.  Additionally the trackpad is a hit or miss, sometimes it works flawlessly for a few days, and then other times it gets stuck and unclickable, not to mention it sometimes starts spasming and clicking over and over again rapidly until restart, haptics are a mess. And to add wrap it all up, after putting the pc to sleep or fully shut down with 80% battery will almost always lead to coming back even 2 to 3 hours later to have a burning hot piece of metal with either a drained or very low battery.

I've wasted more hours than I can count with oversees customer support running the same test everyone else runs. To many bios versions and combinations to count,  along with os updates, drivers, settings, and 2 complete wipes and reinstalls.

Don't get me wrong, this laptop is the future, in form and on paper its perfect, literally everything I've always wanted. However in reality, its not ready, and is a huge time burner not to mention headache. Especially considering its enormous $2300+ price tag and $400+ warranty and support package.

Currently waiting on an "out of stock" part for a new touchpad (Who knows how many months that will leave me with a $2300 defective laptop) to fix just one of the many issues that are plaguing these beautiful yet crippled machines.

Sry for the mini rant, had to get it out best of luck to everyone in the same boat.
