XPS 15 7590, Memory Integrity on causes an inaccessible boot device

Hey all,

Just wanted to report a minor bug with a fresh install on Windows 11 22H2 on XPS 15 7590.

When trying to turn on Memory Integrity under Device Security / Core Isolation, upon next reboot i get a blue screen with Inaccessible Boot Device.

Yes, I'm using the latest Intel Chipset Drivers and XPS 15 7590 firmware.

Yes my Windows 11 is up to date.

Same problem, same frustration. Windows 11 22H2 update keeps appearing in Windows Update from time to time but always fails the same way. Dell issues firmware and other updates but they never seem to make any difference for this issue.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they had all wound down for Christmas and won't be back until the New Year

I have Memory Integrity ON but I have the same issue with 22h2 update. I have XPS 15 7590. With upgraded RAM and SSD.

For the first time in absolute ages - I've just noticed that 22H2 is no longer being offered in Windows Update, nor minimalised on the taskbar, nor in the Windows Update>Advanced Options>View Optional Updates.

Now, it could be just a glitch and it may reappear, OR, it could be that finally the penny has dropped at Microsoft and they now realise there IS a problem with 22H2 and the XPS15 7590 after all.

I hope so with you, but the update is still promoted and not working in my system.

Perhaps it will be removed this week. Or did you try to install, run in an error, and after that the update was deleted? That was previously the case with my system,

I'm just biding my time and waiting.

I haven't changed anything or tried anything new - the 22H2 has just vanished from Windows Update completely.

I guess we'll just have to see what happens in the coming weeks/months

Guess what? 22H2 has reappeared in the Windows Update having vanished a week ago.

Perhaps its been updated and fixed? I will do a new clean install and report back later today - keep your fingers crossed!

Uncross the fingers - unfortunately, no change.

It seems this is related to Bios setting Enable VT for Direct I/O - if you disable it then 22H2 installs as you would expect and Memory Integrity works (but clearly it is needed for Hyper V)

As soon as you enable  Enable VT for Direct I/O all the known problems return as we've all described.

Is this a microsoft or Dell issue. Is there any way to report this beyond a community forum post? This is ridiculous. Is there any indication that this problem is even on the radar of either company?

So I seem to have fixed this. I have a XPS 7590 i7. Just like all of you, the 22H2 update failed every single time - the PC restarted and got stuck on the black loading screen. I had to force shut off twice for it to roll back.

It seems like the issue is with Dell's secure boot. You gotta deactivate it in BIOS. Once done, restart and try updating to 22H2 again. It if isn't showing up in your Update, you can force install it by downloading and running Windows 11 Installation Assistant - https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows11. Worked like a charm for me.

Do not start secure boot again - you will get the blue screen "Inaccessible_boot_device" error. Need to wait for Dell to issue an update to fix it.

I also have this problem with my XPS 15 7950 i7.

I can't disable Secure Boot as my drive is protected by Bitlocker.

Unfortunately, Bitlocker is enabled by network policy so as soon as I suspend it, or disable it, the network policy kicks in and enables it again.  There's nothing I can do about that.

Surely, it must be possible for DELL and Microsoft to work together to fix this type of issue.

Hi, I just wanted to re-confirm that the problem is still there and that as this topic had more than 16000 views maybe it's time for somebody at Dell to call their buddies at Microsoft and check out what's wrong as this is a major windows update. Please somebody can bring the attention to this issue? or at least give us a feedback from Dell about it?

I got a reply from my Support ticket with DELL asking about this problem. In the reply they try to tell me that the XPS 15 7590 is not supported with Windows 11 or 22H2 (which it clearly is from this page =

I assume that although DELL know perfectly well that I'm using an XPS 15 7590, that message didn't get through to the support people who think I'm using an "XPS 15 7000", which isn't on the list. I have, of course, gone back to them to clarify I'm using the XPS 15 7590.

Anyway, this is the useless reply.  I'll update if I hear anything else.
