XPS 15 9550 Keyboard not working on boot up.

I have an XPS 15 9550, and been having a problem on startup for a couple of months now. When I turn on the computer, I get the dell splash on the screen but the keyboard does not light up. After the splash goes away, it is just a black screen.

I have to reboot the computer several times with 3-5 powered off between attempts until the keyboard lights up during the boot-up process. 

Customer service tried claiming it was because security patches were not installed in a timely manner but I manually run updates every week.
