XPS 15 9550, started running while in backpack, nearly catching fire

Hi all,

I'm very disappointed in my XPS 15 9550 (warranty expired February 18, 2019). Unfortunately, the computer seems to be constantly starting to blue screen and now, I've just transported it for 2 hours in a laptop bag (lid obviously closed).

While in the bag, it seems to have turned itself on. This has drained the battery and run the machine hot for 2 hours. Upon looking in the bag, my other items were excessively hot with the laptop being too hot to touch.

My power options specifically say to put the computer to sleep mode if the lid is closed.

I'm very worried about my personal safety transporting this laptop now. Does anyone have a solution? I am finding it very hard to contact someone at Dell.

Thanks

It is not sleep like it used to be.

* Go back to the top of the XPS Laptops board

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this now happens even if the laptop is fully shut down. As such, after transporting my laptop, I try and boot it up and the battery is less than 3% and then shuts down shortly after lack of power. This is unacceptable and dangerous.

Workaround for Modern Standby battery consumption and heat
* Highlight on the battery icon (bottom right)

* Right click and click Power Options
* On the left side navigation, click "Choose what the power buttons do"
* On, "When I press the power button", change On battery and Plugged in to "Shut down"
* Click Save changes
