XPS 15 9570 Windows 10 update failure

Errors only occur when trying to update to new version (2004 or 20H2), normal updates to 1909 are fine.

I decided to do a clean install, took all day to get everything installed and set up again but everything seems to be working fine, I've no idea what the problem was though.

I too have this problem on an XPS 17 9700 when trying to update to 2021H1. 

Hi! I have the same issue on Dell Vostro 5590 (aka P88F). The root of evil is audio drivers. One can make sure of this by the following steps:

1. Check C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/upgrade/log-files). I have found there the error with code 0x80070002:
   

DRVMIG: Failed to inject driver package in the new OS: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wavesapo8de.inf_amd64_6fbc1c619ffcf1a0\wavesapo8de.inf. Error: 0x80070002[gle=0x0000007a]

Thus one need to remove this driver.

• Following this manual one have to execute

dism /online /get-drivers /format:table > c:\drivers.txt​

to list installed drivers. In my case this table contains two drivers released by Waves company:

oem72.inf          | wavesdmic.inf                    | Нет      | Extension         | Waves                       | 10.01.2020 | 4.0.13.0

oem82.inf          | wavesapo8de.inf                  | Нет      | SoftwareComponent | Waves                       | 28.06.2019 | 5.2.0.307   

•  To remove drivers from the package execute:

pnputil.exe /delete-driver oem72.inf /uninstall
pnputil.exe /delete-driver oem82.inf /uninstall​

Correspondent devices will be stopped and then drivers will be deleted (see also /force key).

• Optionally one may want to uninstall MaxxAudioPro and Realtek High Definition applications by means Windows's Settings.
• Try to install Windows update once more time.
