XPS 15, boot issue

Hey guys,

Bit of a strange one that has me scratching my head. A couple of days ago my Dell XPS 15 just died on me mid use, while plugged into the power adapter. Completely unresponsive and no power to it. Both on battery and on mains. I did a hard reset, (took the back off, unclipped the battery, held the power button for 20 secs etc) and upon doing this I managed to get the laptop back on.

When I managed to get it back on it works like a dream, no issues, both on power and battery, battery health is excellent and I get a good 5-6 hours out of it at time (replaced it 6 months ago). Then when I shut it down that evening, when I returned to it the following morning I had the same issue, wouldn't turn back on without me having to open her up again and do a hard reset. To try and come up with a temporary work around, that evening I decided to see if just sending it to sleep would change anything, and it didn't, it wouldn't come back on even from a sleep state without a hard reset. After the hard reset this time when I got it back on, all my open tabs/documents were still there, so it definitely was in 'sleep' mode, just a very deep one apparently.

Has anyone encountered this issue before? Not sure if its a hardware thing and has me a bit miffed.

Any help or points in the right direction would be super appreciated.

Cheers

D

UPDATE ON THIS!

Have been doing some troubleshooting, seeing when it responds and when it doesnt, and it seems that when the laptop is tilted at 90 degrees, so the screen on the table and the keyboard upright, the laptop will turn on, on battery and on power, then when you orientate it the correct way its fine once up and running. Whats even stranger is the above only works when the back casing is off, if the back casing is on then the laptop cuts out at the login screen usually, but again, once the laptop is up and running with the back casing off i can put the back casing back on and the laptop runs fine.

I am absolutely baffled by it all, it doesnt seem to make much logical sense.
