XPS 9510 SSD upgrade

Hi,

I am thinking of switching from my XPS 9560 to the newest XPS 9510 with 512GB. I noticed that the 9510 has a second SSD slot.

Is it possible to simply insert the old SSD from my 9560 into this free slot to transfer my data to the new laptop and also double the storage by then using two 512 GB cards?

The SSD I wanna use from my XPS 9560 is the standard Dell SK Hynix PC300 NVMe 512GB.

Thanks for any tips.

Welcome to the Dell Community @Makatz

There could be a conflict with the added drive being an Active and Bootable drive???

To add the drive you would also need the "Thermal Bracket"

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/xps-15-9510-laptop/xps-15-9510-service-manual/removing-the-solid-state-drive-2?guid=guid-18ab513f-e98a-4a73-a2e5-b64faed2735a&lang=en-us

To transfer data try an external enclosure.

Then you can format the drive and then install it internally.

Best regards,

If your drive in the XPS 9560 is an M.2 form factor then should not be a problem physically. If yhou installed the 9560 and booted from it then you would probably have some driver issues. If you want to use it as a second drive in the system then should not be a problem.

Hi, is there any limit to the capacity of the 2nd ssd you may want to install?
