XPS 9570 does not switch on AND does not switch off
Hello,
I have a strange case for you: since one week my XPS 9570 won't switch on *when the cord is plugged in*. No lights, no beeps.
I CAN switch it on without the cord (on battery).
However, once booted, the power button does not switch it off (even if I keep it pressed 1 minute).
The battery is new, I changed it recently (4 month ago).
What I tried:
- to rule out a problem with the charger, I tried with a new DELL charger. It won't boot.
- to rule out a problem with the battery, I tried to boot without battery. I removed the battery, plugged the cord: It won't boot.
- Once on, the power button events does not arrive to the system. When I press it, usually a menu appears under Linux. But now, nothing. I verified in the system logs that the power button event does not arrive at all in the ACPI daemon when I press the button.

I need to add that I update the BIOS to the latest version. I also did the BIOS tests, no failures.

Still nobody? Currently to use the computer I need to first switch it on on battery, then plug in the cable. It's not a big deal, but I'd like to understand this problem...

Disconnect the AC adapter from both the XPS 15-9570 and the wall power jack
* Disconnect all USB and other peripherals from the XPS 15-9570
* Wait one minute
* Reconnect the AC adapter to both
* Press and hold the power button for 8 seconds, then release it
* Press and release the power button. What happens?

Thanks for your reply.
I had to open the laptop, disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Then it started.
Note that I tried to start the laptop without battery (just the cable): it won't start.

Well today, the power button seems to work again.
Everything back to normal: power on and off with battery works (it was doing nothing before).
Let's see in the next days...

My only guess is that the power cord would "supercharge" something in the power circuit and send it haywire.
A highly educated guess I know!
