XPS 9700 - An Operating System Exception Was Caused By System Memory
I got a new Dell laptop in April but did not have time to set it up until a couple of weeks ago.
When it goes to sleep and then I press the power button, I get the error "An Operating System Exception Was Caused By System Memory".
I contacted support a couple of times. They ran a bunch of diags and said it is not a hardware problem and to have a nice day. They would only offer software support for a fee.
I already paid nearly 3000 for the laptop and it clearly has a problem, but I guess I waited too long to expect good service. Owning numerous Dell products, this is the first time that I have had such a terrible time with getting support. It seems they have grown too large to be concerned about the satisfaction of individual customers.
I read other threads with similar issues and it sounds like it is related to the BIOS version. I am on 1.8.2. Some suggested going back to 1.2.0 but that's not available on the site. There is 1.0.6 and 1.3.2.
I read that changing sleep settings to hibernate can solve the issue in some cases.
With as many reports as I have read about this online, it's shocking that there is not a solution. Has anyone found a solution? Do you think this is an indication that the device is not to be trusted for any serious work?
Thanks in advance for any insights.

After much dialog with Dell, the problem has stopped. It seemed to be related to their sleep vs. hibernate features or possibly later BIOS updates, but it no longer seems to do it.
This is what they told me:
Our internal team is working on the root cause and a permanent solution to the issue.
Currently there are 3 workarounds:
Option 1 - Disable network Connected standby. The laptops would not check for updates.
Option 2 - Enable hibernate and set it to 20 minutes. Hibernate would power off the system.
Option 3 – Disable sleep. This option would completely disable sleep within the system.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I have also noticed that, after disabling the sleep option the problem is completely solved. For me downgrading the BIOS didn't work.
