XPS L502x memory module mechanism stuck in down position

I disassembled, cleaned and installed SSD.  In the process I removed the two 8G memory sticks and clicked the movable memory module down in the latched position.

Now that I am finished I cannot release the memory module to re-install the memory.  It seems to be very firmly in place and nothing I try can release it.  I know I did not damage it in the process as I was meticulously careful during the entire process.  I have looked at the mechanism closely and see nothing that can help.  And yes I did move the levers outward as you do for removing the memory.  Any ideas?
