XPS M1330 RAM Upgrade Problem

I bought a used Patriot 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 200 pin sodimm ram for my XPS M1330. This model supports up to 8gb RAM; 4gb on each slot. When I install the Patriot ram module the laptop doesn't boot and the caps lock light blinks flashes exactly 45 times and the pc shuts off. What exactly does that mean? Is the ram module defective or are they not compatible? I believe they should be compatible because PC2-6400 DDR2 are backwards compatible with PC2-5300.

Thanks

It's not the RAM specs that are the problem. That RAM type would work. But Dell systems are very picky about compatible RAM and more than likely it is not compatible with your older system. The best RAM for compatibility is Crucial and you can find that here.

so, you are saying patriot brand ram modules won't work on an XPS M1330?
