If the system is as business-critical as you claim, then it's under warranty;  call Dell support for assistance.

TPMs can fail -- but usually the issue is with software, not hardware.

First some questions and there might be a proper solution for this without sending the laptop in for repairs.  As you know we are turning to more and more security on computers in general and multi factor authentication is one of the functions that can rely on the TPM.

Did the computer recently have updates applied?

Is there a firmware update available, from Dell, for your computer.  Please go to dell.com/support and have supportassist find updates automatically.  You can review the updates before you apply them, so it is not an you must update.

Most operating system patches are being delivered through the Microsoft Windows update process, in a lot of cases this means that important patches are pushed to your machine without your knowledge and a reboot of the laptop "off business hours" can happen (mostly overnight).

When you write business email I assume this means Outlook with a Office365 supported environment.  Is your laptop actually being managed by an administrator, sometimes this pops up but the laptop is not enrolled into a company managed environment.

If you send out RFQ's or respond to them is there a CRM platform involved?

So, enough with the questions.  Few ways to fix things if you are a local administrator on your laptop:

MS OUTLOOK ISSUE - Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned - Spiceworks

[FIX] Outlook Trusted Platform Module Malfunction Error Code 80090030 on Windows 10 - Appuals.com

We are all enthusiasts here and I can tell you that this does not only happen to Windows machines (it is not related to Dell only) but that Apple rolled out a T2 update that bricked a substantial amount of systems this past week.  You are also not alone in the matter.

Disclaimer:  I do not work for Dell.

Thanks aelaan, those links look like what my consultant did for me.

We started by updating all the Dell stuff using the auto discover function, so basically everything Dell could find that needed updating. That did not help.

Every time I rebooted I saw a flash notice pop up saying something about FW and EM failure to update and my consultant sought out the Dell firmware and engine management updates and that sorted out only one issue - being able to get the TPM working again.

However, my Outlook profiles were still useless, I have no idea how to explain it but it seems like they were corrupted or unable to be deleted and the TPM kept referring to the wrong information in some registry somewhere, but we could not get Outlook to work. So we created a new user on the computer and suddenly Outlook was working again.

I have not tried to use the old user profile so it is a bit like golf, correcting a mistake with another mistake; trying to correct a slice by using a closed stance. It is working now.  Also, that so called 'fix' that Dell promotes of creating a new registry called EnableADAL and setting it to 0 does not work.

Just another detail to address a suggestion of yours: I do not use any fancy software for quotes, I just do them on Excel and send to my customers directly.

My uneducated assessment of the whole thing is that the likes of Dell and Microsoft are too clever for themselves, they force updates that have not been tested and leave it up to the poor users to discover the faults. The man hours that go into creating work arounds, and the cost of lost productivity is astronomical and these guys get away without any responsibility. I lost an entire day of income generating work and had to pay a consultant, a double whammy!

A big thank you here to Microsoft and Dell, I love you guys

A bios update didn't help. The only thing that worked for me was turning off the laptop, unplugging the power and waiting 30 seconds. After that the TPM error before boot was gone.
