SMTP server password requirement and testing email functionality

1) XtremIO GUI insists that i specify username and password for SMTP server. My SMTP server does not require credentials when being accessed from internal networks.  How do i get around that ?

2) Is there a way to test email functionality ?

Thanks

Not wrong, just upgraded one of our bricks to 4.0.0-64 this week, and was told a new update might be available as soon as this Friday...

Brett,

do you upgrade yourself or get RCM involved ?

August 5th, 2015 04:00

RCM. As much as I would have loved to do it myself, wasn't an option.

Still have one to go, as the first attempt was affected by a known upgrade bug with folder guids. Hopefully sorted this week, then out them both through their paces.

mine arrived with 4.0.0-64, ESRS is configured to go to my ESRS gateways via FTP so i wanted to use SMTP configuration to email myself of any hardware/software issues.  I guess in the mean time i will need to roll my own script  that will ssh to XMS and parse xmcli output (not ready for REST just yet).

looked at the release notes for 4.0.1-7  released today but don't see any fixes for the SMTP issue.

I would recommend working through your EMC account team to get an answer for when the fix would be made available to the customers.

me too, still listed as a known issue.

I've found as a workaround you can leave username blank and just put random characters in the password field.

Wow.....this actually works good catch!

While it may allow you to save the config, it doesn't allow the notifications to be sent, as it will then try and auth to the SMTP server, which will fail.

If you change over to the CLI Terminal after setting it and then type in send-email-notification text="Test"

Unless you have set valid credentials, you won't get the notification.

For now, I'm using some valid credentials and they work fine. Don't have time to get the update installed.

I was able to set the username to blank and entered in 2 characters for the password, save the config and I am now receiving alerts from XIO.

So I tried this and  send the test emails worked but yesterday we simulated a Storage controller failure and received no alerts. Is there an option I missing as to what type of alerts need to be emailed or something?
