Install problem on esx4

Hi

I got this error installing virtual edition on esx4.

avqinstall gives me this error on log file:

createdb: could not connect to database postgres. FATAL: the database system is starting up

psql:  FATAL: database "mcdb" does not exist

avqinstall: ERROR: run command failded: mcserver.sh --init --force

I didn't made any change to install conf file.

This is a test enviroment.

Any ideas?

    Hi,

I am on a fresh install and hit the same error during avqinstall.

At the moment I run mcserver.sh --init as user admin, but because the error interrupted the avqinstall I am not sure if the avamar system will work then.

It just completed with a FATAL message:

    Loading built-in event profiles.
psql: FATAL:  the database system is starting up
    admin@ave-lab-01:~/>: echo $?
    0

Any hint on this and if the avqinstall is complete now? I assume not, because the avqinstall script contain many more milestones after ini_mcs

to continue, the avqinstall failed again (the DNS error is a lie, the entry exist in /etc/hosts)

now ems failed to start local mcs:

I am experiencing exactly the same problem when installing the Avamar Virtual Edition. It seems random in some way. If restarting it mutliple times it sometimes proceeds past the mcdb but then gets stuck at the ems service:

INFO: creating /usr/local/avamar/var/em/server_data/postgres/data with permissions 0755

    Initializing the database

    kernel.shmmax = 1200000000

    kernel.shmall = 18750000

    Starting the database server.

Waiting for postmaster to start ..Started.

createdb: could not connect to database postgres: FATAL:  the database system is starting up

Haven't found a solution for this yet.

i had the same problem... i fixed it with raising the memory on the virtual machine to 4 GB as described in the documentation.

    Hi,

the avamar virtual edition VM I got from EMC is already set to 4GB RAM. and the problem is there.

Are you sure, that you did not change anything else at the same time?

    Thnx, Holger

    Hi Clarence,

I got information from EMC, that my version of the avamare virtual edition was outdated

and they told me to use a newer one. As it is for a testlab and my time limited

I could not yet check the newer version. As soon as this is done I will post it here.

    If you are faster.....

    Regards, Holger

    Hi,

since there is no mentioning of a solution to this problem I post my solution here.

The problem is a missing database in postgresql.

In the skript /usr/local/avamar/lib/dbcreate.sh there are several calls `$psql ...` which execute psql --port 5555 --dbname mcdb SQLSKRIPT.sql.

Since this database doesn't exist you get an error.

So I added the following line to the script /usr/local/avamar/lib/dbcreate.sh :

    `/usr/bin/psql --port 5555 --dbname template1 --command "create database mcdb;"`

just before the line "sleep 1".

After that you can call "mcserver.sh --init --force" this in turn calls the just modified skript and the database will be created and populated.

    Then call "mcserver.sh --start"

Now you can connect to the mcserver interface with the avamar administrator client.

I haven't yet tested if the remaining milestones from the avqinstall skript are really necessary, but on a first glance I'd say it's working.

    Best Regards,

    Florian
