Unable to change boot order

I have an older Dell computer and I need to change the boot order in install a OS and I cant change the boot order at all. There isn't even an F12 option for a quick boot order change.

Any ideas?

Its an Latitude CPx H500GT. I know its a laptop but i figured more people visit this section vs the laptop section. Anyways, I cannot change the values using the arrow keys like the screen says. Ive tried many other key combos and nothing works. I can use the arrows and go up and down. But nothing is working to change the order.

Thanks

You probably are not going to get many answers until you disclose the model number   To get into the BIOS F2 is usually required at startup.  If you are booting and the monitor is a little slow, try hitting F2 once every second and see what that gets you into.

You are incorrect on that assumption in my opinion and for other people to find the thread and possible solution it should be in the proper forum for faster searching.

Try this to get into your BIOS setup:

To run the System Setup program, press on the computer’s keyboard (or on an external keyboard if the External Hot Key option is enabled).

Cheers, Dave

ps, I read almost all the different forums and observe many of the helpers doing the same:)

PendragonIT,

Your message is a little confusing. It sounds as if you are in the BIOS but cannot change the boot order.

If that's correct, try this:

Use the arrow keys to select the option you wish to move.

Then use the keyboard U or D keys (not the arrow keys) to move the option up or down.

I can get into the bios by pressing the F2 button. But I cannot change the order of the boot order. The arrow keys do not work. The only thing I can do is ALT+P to move to the next page and the arrow keys to go up/down. I cannot change ANY values on ANY screen. Thats my problem.

Like I said before I CAN access the BIOS. But unable to change ANY values.

Thanks on the help thus far.:smileyhappy:

Nope. Didnt work.  Am I better off updating the BIOS? Its version is A06 and I believe A14 is the most recent. I looked at the revisions and it doesn't say in past and present fixes that changing the boot order was something that was fixed. I am still stumped. It's usually never this hard to do that.

Thanks for the help so far guys!

Just passin' thru ----

If memeory serves me, the "Enter" key fits in that sequence somewheres.

I don't have my "wired" keyboard available, or I'd check it and tell you EXACTLY what to do,and EXACTLY how to do it.

Anyways, you CANNOT change your boot order by using ONLY the "U","D", or arrow keys --- the "Enter" key is the key to making the whole thing work !!

As for the Bios update --- I was told a few days ago by one of the techies here that if your BIOS ain't broke, leave it alone ---- the reasoning being that a BIOS update gone bad can kill the motherboard !!!

GOOD LUCK !!!

Peace.

Press F2 key to enter BIOS. then ALT+P to go to the second page to access boot sequence page. Use up and down buttons to move around page and left and right buttons on keyboard to change inputs to sequences.
