G15 5511 compatible RAM and SSD
I just purchased this laptop and I am planning to upgrade the RAM and considering installing a second SSD when I do. I have seen lots of conflicting information online about what is or isn't and what should or shouldn't be compatible with this laptop. The specific model I ordered isn't there now to link but has the following included:
11th gen I5-11260h processor (12MB Cache, up to 4.4 GHz, 6 cores)
RTX 3050 TI 4GB GDDR6 graphics card
512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
8GB 3200 DDR4 RAM
3-Cell Battery, 56WHr (Integrated)
FGA Module - Fixed Hardware Configuration
I will definitely be switching the RAM out for a pair of dual channel SO-DIMM sticks. I'm just not sure if I'm going to get a 2x8 pair or spring the extra $40-55 to get a 2x16 pair. I think I am set with compatible RAM to buy but would welcome suggestions as well. My problem is compatible SSD. I have read things saying this should have no issues with PCIE 4 and things saying it struggles with it. I don't know what to believe. Reviews of the processor say it's PCIE 4. People with different versions of the 5511 have said different things about SSD's working or not at the right speeds and in slot 1 or 2. I haven't seen anyone saying anything specific to my build (unless they just weren't mentioning their build so I don't know which 5511 they had. So, any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I have about three weeks before my laptop will get here to hopefully figure this out.
