XPS 12 (XPS 13) Touchpad/Trackpad replaceable
Hi! The Touchpad/Trackpad on my new XPS 12 is loose and seems to be not fixed properly. Every time I touch it on the lower half it goes down a bit and does an annoying noise. (I am not talking about the clicking area on the lowest part of it - that "clicks normally" and of course has to be clicked down - but the whole touchpad goes down, too). Since the Dell tech guy on the phone neither had a XPS 12 model yet nor any information (just one of the XPS 14 and 15) he wasn´t really sure if the Touchpad is replaceable. My question is: Is the touchpad of the XPS 12 (or 13) replaceable? (XPS 12 should have the same base as the XPS 13). PS: I found an owner manual for the XPS 12 - it describes how to replace pretty much every component of the 12 but no word on the touchpad! Thanks! Regards, Michael

Hi,
Thanks for contacting the community.
Please provide me the Service tag or the Express service code of the system in a private message so that I can check the warranty status of the system. In case your system is under warranty we will go ahead and arrange the replacement for you.
Please reply if you have any further questions.
Thanks & Regards

Thanks for your prompt reply. I really appreciate your help.
The thing is - I already opened an issue with Dell. A tech guy will contact me to make an appointment for a replace at home.
They already have my details. So far, so good...
But my problem is, so far nobody could really tell me if the trackpad is really replaceable. Even the owner manual gives no indication to that. If the whole unit needs to be replaced, I should better stop working/configuring/putting data on it until it will be replaced. If it is replaceable I don´t have to worry about that.
So therefore I thought I could ask the community if anyone has ever got replaced his trackpad on a XPS 12 or 13.

Hi,
you're not alone! My XPS 12's trackpad isn't properly aligned with the palmrest either. On the left it's slightly sunk in, whereas on the right side it sticks out slightly above the palmrest. You might think it's a minor inconvenience, but it's actually quite bothersome to use. And while I'm at it: as someone mentioned in a post elsewhere, the trackpad shows off acumulated 'finger oils' (for lack of a better word, and yes, my hands are dry and clean!) far more than any other trackpad I've ever used. It looks especially nasty on this otherwise very elegant laptop. You'd think that a little bit more thought would have gone into the design of a $1200 device. If there is any way that this could be fixed under warranty, I would appreciate hearing about it.
I'm otherwise very happy with the XPS 12. Love the touch-screen and LOVE the gorgeous FHD display!
Cheers,
Jay
