Latitude 5520 random freeze

Any known issues with the Latitude 5520 which randomly freeze. We have a lot of them and a couple are freezing and need a hard power down. Updated drivers/bios versions no difference. Reinstalling. Dell diagnose, no issues (but that is often the case even if there is a hardware issue). Disabled a lot of things like bluetooth, audio, sensors and some services.
No information in eventlog. It is difficult to troubleshoot, because you need to work for hours on a laptop. I had one which I used for a couple of days, but only some basic tasks, like browser, outlook and teams, no issues. Then give it to the enduser and on day 1 it would hang again and I all ready swapped laptop so, I will give user for the third time a different laptop.

I did google and found https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/ryi4fz/dell_latitude_9520_frequent_freezes
Since 5520/7520/9520 properly share a lot in common I see possible solutions in replacing harddisk, changing bios settings, poor quality thermal pasta, etc

Thanks.

Thank you! We have received the required details. We will work towards a resolution. In the meantime, you may also receive assistance or suggestions from the community members.

Perform a hard reset on the laptop and use a known good outlet (Est. 2 Minute)

      1. Disconnect any external devices including the AC adapter

      1. Hold the power button down for 10 seconds

      1. Bypass any power strips, surge protectors or battery backups

      1. Verify the wall outlet is functional

      1. Reinsert the battery if it was removed

      1. Plug only the AC adapter back into the laptop

      1. Attempt to power on the system

Note- Restart the computer (if the computer boots) to ensure the issue is resolved.

Mine was the 512GB hynix.  BIOS advanced stress testing with the HD - would freeze. Pulled the drive - stress tested all options and left on for 2 hours. No freezing. Will recover what data I can - and RMA that part for new.

    RESOLVED:

    DELL PRECISION 5520: Ci7 / Intel UHD 630 and NVDIA M1200 Graphics cards/ Win 11 pro

Issue: Freezes every few seconds of any action like moving the mouse or typing.

Root Cause: Faulty Intel UHD 630 Graphics H/W or driver.

Actions taken: Applied all updates. Via NVDIA manager, forced to use NVDIA M1200 Graphics card but no help. System froze every few seconds.

Work Around: Disable Intel UHD 630 from Device Manager. This worked and my laptop has had no freezing issues ever since I disabled the Intel UHD 630 Graphics device.

While your issue could be different, it is worth a try if you have a second graphics controller. I hope this helps.
