Words from a newbie about the switch over
I decided on a Linux machine over a Mac because leaving Microsoft wasn't just about leaving Microsoft but about learning and continuing to keep the learning curve going as I 'mature'. If people tell me they want to leave MS I say get a mac - unless you want to really learn and control your machine. This is meant to encourage those of you who bought a Dell Linux and are discouraged. I've had this machine for about 4 months now and in that time I have managed to wipe out my complete drive and had to reinstall the 7.04 that came on my machine. I then updated to 8.04 - not without bumps in the process. People on this board seem to have done it effortlessly. But I am so thankful for each and everyone of those bumps -- I have had to pick up a book and read ---- with successful outcomes ---- hence the learning curve contiues..... The results are that I have a FUN and intuitive desktop that I am totally in love with. As I use Gimp, I find myself not even thinking about going back to Photoshop. The programs are great! The community of support is great! Just had to say it --- thanks Linux community for giving me (and I mean "giving") this wonderful product!! To those of you who are discouraged.... been then, done that.... keep trucking and never, NEVER let the machine beat you!!
