Alienware ID question

I'm thinking about buying an Alienware laptop that is being offered on craigslist, with virtually no description of it, other than a few pictures.  Because there are a number of shady people selling items on craigslist, I would like to know what information I should request from the seller before making an offer on it.  I would like to be able to find out how old the laptop is, what its hardware configuration should be, and if possible, whether it is possibly a stolen unit.  I would appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks,

You could ask for the service tag.

Once you have that you should be able to go to the Dell support website and enter the tag, from there you will be able to see initial shipping date, any warranty remaining and if you select "Original Configuration" you can get a list of internal components included in the computer when it was built
