Confused with directions
I have a dimension XPS866r that I have upgraded to XP Home. Current bios is A03 and I want to update it to the current A08. I find the instructions on the Dell Bios upgrade site to be confusing and/or incorrect.
The site lists 2 files. BXPSB_08.exe and XPSB_08.exe. Even though the BXP file states it is a zipped file, it appears not to be. I have downloaded it onto my desktop, but cannot unzip it (because it is NOT zipped?). Therefore, I am unable to follow directions.
The other file, XPSB... states to copy onto a bootable floppy and just restart the computer. I tried to create a bootable disc from the format menu where one of the options is to make a bootable disc, but all I get is a I/O error when I try it. I can read the disc using explore and boot files do appear to be there. I have set boot sequence to floppy, FDD, HDD and CD in that order.
Is there a post or a site that has clear, simple directions to do this? Reading on this forum, I have noted that some machines can be flashed from windows, can I do this with mine?
thanks,
Skip
OK, nevermind. I kept on formatting the floppy and it finally booted the system, so I was able to upgrade to the A08 BIOS.
