I am attempting to help a friend with a crashed drive on his Dimension 5150c. He has no XP install disk from Dell.

If I try to install from my own copy of XP professional and then apply his key code (which Dell Support tells me is legal) I have a problem that the SATA drives are not recognised. When I download the drivers I was surprised to find that the installer expects to find the drivers on the A: drive. This machine has no floppy drive, A or otherwise.

So, how do I get the install of XP to recognise and load the drivers it needs to be able to use the hard drive?

I know one solution is to pay Dell for their XP disk and drivers but this really seems a poor way of operating.  Heeeeeellllp
