Battery vs. AC Adapter
I have had a Dell XPS M1710 laptop for about three years. For the last six months or so, I have had trouble with my battery and AC adapters. I have gone through three AC adapters and now the third one is dead. Before purchasing the last one (approximately two months ago), I purchased a new battery from Dell. Now, I can't charge my computer at all because the AC adapter won't work. Basically, my AC adapters go through the same pattern:
-AC adapter works fine.
-AC adapter works fine for a while, then the green light goes out and it stops charging my laptop. I then unplug it from both the laptop and the wall for an hour or so, plug it back in, and it works again.
-Laptop doesn't recognize AC adapter when plugged into adapter during booting up. It says something like "Computer needs to use 130W AC Adapter, press F1 to restart." Well, I am using a 130W adapter. Then, if I unplug it and restart, then plug the AC adapter back in after the computer has booted up, the computer will start charging again and seems to recognize the adapter.
-AC adapter starts beeping and the green light does not show, thus not charging the laptop. The laptop is now dead and I can't use the dead charger on it.
Basically, I'm trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong. Should I purchase a new AC adapter, or should I buy a new computer all together? I'm so frustrated and haven't seen any info on this particular problem
Thanks.
