Price Protection
I think it is fair that folks get an idea of how this works from the consumer's POV. You see, if you bought a laptop for $1300 one week and the next week the price of the "same" configuration of what you got was $1000 with either a rebate or 20% off or both, then you CANNOT ask Dell for a refund of $300. Why? Because Dell does NOT consider rebates or "sales" as a
reduced price. Folks here warned me of this, but I didn't listen.
When I called Dell, they told me EXACTLY as I am telling you now. My computer had dropped in price well over $100 and it even had better "free" upgrades that my computer didn't have. They offered me $50 credit back to my account OR $100 gift certificate to Dell's site. I took the $100 gift card, but later realized that aside from desktops and notebooks, everything else at Dell's site is, how to put it nicely, "ultimate retail."
Be warned.
