dell latitude d610 issue
i installed a new toshiba mk4032gax h.d. into a dell latitude d610 notebook since the old mk4026gax h.d. got fried in a power surge. i made a partition, formatted the drive, and reinstalled xp pro sp2 from the recovery cd dell sent me. i also installed the drivers from the recovery cd dell provided me as well, but now i am having an internet connection problem. the rest of the computer works fine, just having internet connection issues.
my issue is that when i plug in the line direct from the cable modem (i am not going through a router or anything), i get the "limited or no connectivity" exclamation point next to the connection icon in the task bar. so i click on repair, and it says "renewing i.p. address", but after a little bit of trying, it stops and says that it could not be repaired.
i also have a dell inspiron 9300, so i tried plugging the same internet cable in to that one to see if i got the same "limited or no connectivity" issue, but no, as soon as i plug in the 9300, it gets right online no problems.
can anyone help me diagnose this issue? thank you in advance!
