Frequent network connection dropouts
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with Broadcom 440x 10/100 network card and Intel Pro 2200BG wireless. I am experiencing frequent and unpredictable disconnects from the internet and am having a terribly difficult time trying to localize the source of the problem. I have contacted my ISP (Time Warner) who can't seem to locate any problems on their end. I am experiencing this problem both while using wireless and being directly hooked up by ethernet cable. All through this, my cable modem appears to be working fine although I have tried switching the cable modem just in case but without success. I guess one question I have is does my wireless require a functioning ethernet card to work? I find it hard to believe that both my wireless and ethernet would malfunction simultaneously. However, if my wireless requires ethernet, and if the ethernet card is busted, then I can see the ethernet being a potential source of problem. I'd appreciate any input on my situation. Thanks,
Dave
