I have a Desktop running windows 98 plus (not a dell, unfortunately) and I have a cable modem and high speed Internet. Now I want to connect my dell 2300 wireless router to that computer and Internet connection so I have a wireless connection for my laptop>

I read the guide for setting up the Dell 2300 Wireless Router and noticed the software is only compatible with windows 2000 or XP. However, after reading some information I saw that the dell 2300 could in fact work on a windows 98 operating system by using some type of online configuration tool. This was confirmed for me when I put the software for the 2300 in my computer and it said or prompted this software is only compatible with windows 2000 or xp but you can configure it to work with other operating systems. I have read the web page saying visit http://192.168.2.1. Or go to run under the start menu and type http://my.router. When I do this it never takes me to the online configuration tool. Does my router need to be connected to the computer before I can? I don’t think so b/c I have tried this. At this point I am really frustrated. If someone could please give me step-by-step instructions on connecting my router to a desktop running windows 98 so that my laptop can connect I would really appreciate it.

Once again I have a good desktop but its only running windows 98 plus and i dont want to upgrade. I need to connect or configure my dell 2300 wireless router to work with my desktop.
