CD/DVD rom not recoginized
I have a Dimension 8300 that's about 2 years old. I put in a blank CD to try to burn and backup some files, and I got an error message with Easy CD Creator Ver. 5 that said the device was not recoginizable. I checked 'My Computer' and can no longer find my D: drive which is supposed to be a CD/DVD rom. I read some of the previous threads to troubleshoot the problem to no avail. I checked my 'Device Manager' and there is no listing of a CD/DVD rom. I also ran regedit.exe and followed the instructions to delete the upper and lower filters. I restarted and nothing changed. I restarted in Safe Mode and still can't find any listing of this drive. I even went to the extent of uninstalling Easy CD Creator. Now I can't reinstall it from the application CD that came with the computer because my computer will not recoginize the drive. One other thing to note...I don't know if this has anything to do with this problem, but in Device Manager, I get an error message on the Secondary IDE Channel that is under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers set. When I click on the Secondary IDE Channel, it gives me this error message in the device status box...."Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"
To give some background, I put a music CD in the other night to upload the tracks to My Music folder to be played in Real One Player. I didn't realize it was a new security enhanced CD, so I couldn't save the tracks to my hard drive like I usually do. The CD apparently had its own program to uplaod the tracks to my My Music folder. When it did this, it also upgraded my version of Real Player. I wasn't satisfied with the new version of Real Player and tried to do a system restore to get everything back to what it was before I uploaded the tracks from the enhanced security CD. This is when my problems started.
HELP!!! Any thoughts? Should I stop wasting my time and take my tower in for service?
