Symmetrix Performance Analyzer (SPA) v2.1 Licensing

I recently downloaded the updated (12/15/2010) SE/SMC7.2/SPA2.1 virtual appliance from PowerLink but cannot figure out how to license SPA.

I see in SMC where I can apply an SPA license, but it’s looking for a local path on the SMC server, which in this case is the virtual appliance, which I cannot copy files to.  Is there yet another new licensing scheme for SPA 2.1??

How does one license SPA when running with the SMC7.2/SPA2.1 vApp from EMC?  Do I need a different/new license?

see in SMC where I can apply an SPA license, but it’s looking for a local path on the SMC server, which in this case is the virtual appliance, which I cannot copy files to.

Thanks,

Rich

I dont think SPA vAPP supports ELM as of now but I need to check it in the lab.

That's what I'm hearing... according to EMC document 300-011-734:

    ===============================================

SPA 2.1 uses host-based eLicensing to enter and query its licenses.

Starting with 2.1, there is only a single SPA license.

    Note:

SPA 2.0 utilizes host-based Electronic License Management, therefore

you will be provided with a License Authorization Code letter for your SPA

software. Use this license code to register the SPA software electronically on

    the EMC Powerlink

    ® website

Mine is not working... It does not accept smc/smc when I launch SMC through vapp. I have already tried deleting and redeploying the OVF.

The default username/password for SMC is smc/smc.  The default username/password for the vAPP configuration interface is seconfig/seconfig.

What about when you launch the SMC directly from within a new browser window?  Try "https:// :8443/sem".

I have tried the same on another ESX Server but the same problem. I will go home and download the zip file again and try the same stuff over the weekend. When did you download this ZIP file from powerlink?

    Regards,

    Saurav

I downloaded the zip file for the vapp on 12/29 this past week.  It was dated 12/15 on PowerLink.

Once it was loaded and setup in vmware, we just logged into the configuration interface with seconfig/seconfig, then launched SMC and logged in with smc/smc (and entered the SMC license key on the login screen).

Maybe you need to add the "smc" user to the User Authorization database on the Symmetrix system with the SecurityAdmin role... ?
