I don't seem to be having much luck updating Java. According to Add/Remove Programs what I have installed is Java 2 Runtime Enviroment, SE v 1.4.2_03. Belarc Advisor does not list it by version. From what I have read I need to completely delete the old version first, so I tried to download the version that installs offline, which is about 13 megs and change. The version that installs while you are online has a download about half that size.

 

Anyway...when I attempt to download the larger version the progress bar goes up green for about 4 spaces and then just sits there. When I tried to back out I find the page is frozen and I have to do a Task Manager restart. I did a Internet Explorer browser reset earlier today, but I was having a problem with some pages freezing before that, like the NWS radar loops, which are run by Java, so don't have any idea if the all lockups are caused by the same problem. I didn't notice any ActiveX alerts on the Java site because of the browser reset, which puts everything back to where it was set when it was shipped.

 

So I was wondering if there is a simple solution to getting this downloaded like an alternate site, or should I try again and download the short version. I had pretty much the same problem a few weeks ago when I tried to update Java.
