Vista doesn't recognize all RAM

Got a new XPS 410 with Vista Home premium and 4 gigs of RAM. Windows identifies my processor and everything else on startup but only list RAM as 3 GB. I thought I got stiffed for a dimm but it was installed and all dimms function properly. A Dell tech walked me through testing all dimms and even flashing the bios but vista still says 3 gigs. Anybody else get this with your computer? Is Vista making use of all available RAM? I feel like I paid for it and I'm getting shorted maybe if it isn;t recognized.  Any feedback much appreciated    Thanks
