XPS 8940, cannot update BIOS 2.2.0, black screen
XPS 8940 (march 2021, the warranty is good). Windows 10 Enterprise. Cannot update BIOS to 2.2.0. Not from Windows (XPS_8940_2.2.0.exe), not from USB stick, BIOS Boot Menu (XPS_8940_2.2.0.exe, nor BIOS_IMG.rcv), not from Dell Update 4.4.0 application, not from Windows Update. It's restarting, after that black screen (power button light is on, solid white) forever, monitor shows "No HDMI signal from your device". When manually start the comp - bios still 2.1.3. Tried to downgrade it to 2.1.1. After that can update to 2.1.3 with no problem. But not to 2.2.0.
You have the Enterprise version so that might be the problem. That version is the business version and is controlled by the employer. Bios updates might not be allowed. Check with the volume license holder.
If you installed the Enterprise version by mistake, your computer might not be activated. You must clean install the correct version of Windows--Home or Pro--which you have the license for.

I had an SSD adapter installed there and I had the exact same problem updating to 2.2.0 until I removed it. However, you cannot use that slot after the BIOS update (installing adapter again will make the computer hang at BIOS)
Thank you very much!!! Exactly the same situation. So, now I've removed SSD adapter from PCIe x4 slot and voila. I've got BIOS 2.2.0 installed! Thanks again. But what a ridiculous situation? Dell? Let's say I bought a Mercedes in March, and in October, the dealer said, forget about the cruise control. How does it feel? The answer looks like a solution and it is. So, should I accept it, or wait for Dell reaction? And yes, now I can't use PCIe x4 slot SSD.
Glad to know you got it installed! I agree it's a pretty bad situation though. You are not even allowed to downgrade from 2.2.0 so you cannot go back to your PCIe x4 glory until Dell decides to roll an update to fix the issue. And enabling resizable bar in BIOS made my windows lag for some reason so I disabled it back to get rid of lag. So far, all I did was break the PCIe x4 slot lol.

I tried clean install of Home version. It was activated automatically. Absolutely same result. Btw, as far as I know, updating BIOS from usb stick doesn’t related with OS. Am I right?
