XPS 15 7590, headphone jack not working

If I connect headphones, audio comes through fine, but if I disconnect them and reconnect, audio comes out through the speakers. Headphones don't get detected. Rebooting fixes this, but then again headphones only work the FIRST time i connect them.

I have seen that a lot of users have reported this issue and Dell Support is forcing me to install Waves Maxxaudio, saying there is no other way. I am also, for some reason, unable to install the generic microsoft drivers (doesn't show in the list if I try to update the driver) .

Can someone shed some light on this? And why Dell forces you to use this abysmal piece of software called Waves Maxxaudio?
