I Have been a loyal Dell subscriber for many years, both Desktops and Laptops. My last two purchasers of Dell products have been a major disappointment.

I purchased a Dell Venue 8 Pro, from Amazon in 2013 December. I liked the product at first ( 1 - 2 months) however I found that it had two major flaws.

1. It was dropping the Wireless network connection (5GB) requiring me to power the unit off in order to reconnect. (not convenient on a treadmill)
2. The unit discharged overnight while it was still plugged in to power. This was weird.

I contacted Dell Technical support about both of these problems before warranty expiration. The only recommendation was that I should let it discharge before charging it, and not to leave it plugged in at night - not intended use for tablet devices...??) Some Windows update was blamed for the wireless connection error.

This is the only device I have ever come across that actually discharges while it is plugged in. I have plugged it in to charge when it was 25% and after several hours checked it to see it was 16% - as I said weird - a bad design.

My second experience has been a purchase of the Inspiron 11" 2:1 - this was purchased at Costco, and seemed a great deal. I purchased this in November 2014. I was quite happy with the device, however the network seemed to be slow. I decided to try to connect to the high BW 5GB connection on my WiFi, however discovered this device did not support High Speed Dual Band networking. With some further research on web, it seems that Dell have put an older network card in this device (maybe to get rid of aged inventory) - it does not make any sense as most devices selling by November 2014 supported b,g,n and dual band networks. So while this system seems to work reasonably well as a local Laptop, the network connectivity is very disappointing, I have not been able to connect at speeds more than 73 Mbps. (I have a Dell Latitude that connects consistently at 130 Mbps) and distance from the router the connection drops, and becomes much worse (slower) (BTW - I am never more than 60 ft from the router. )

Finally, for both devices I have found the touchscreen performance is nominal at best. I find I have to tap several times to get a response. Not sure if this is memory, application or the touch screen.

As noted above, because of these two experiences with Dell Tablets , I am no longer a support or promoter of Dell. I will not advise my friends to purchase a Dell Tablet type device. (or Any Dell Device) I had been a strong advocate of Dell - I would now place myself as a detractor when it comes to Dell Products. It may be just that they do not know how to make value Tablet products - but for me there is no more Dell.
