850w compatibility
I just bought a new case and motherboard and I’m curious if the dell 850w PSU will work with it. The motherboard is the ASUS ROG Z390-E strix. I don’t have the money rn due to what’s going to replace it so I’m curious if this power supply will work for temporary use.

Please send us the Dell DP/N of 850W psu. Since you are posting in Alienware desktop, I presume this is for an Alienware?

The one I have has six cables into the white port with 2 open pin slots. So it’s got 8 slots... but only 6 pins on it🥺

The D/PN of the power supply is 0D1J02 and the cords are D/PN 0654MT and the one labeled MB and R7 is D/PN 0MD63V

0D1J02 is a modular PSU. If you have 8 pin CPU power cable you are good.

the 8 pin CPU cable is the second one from bottom I think, the psu end is red 6 pin. the cpu/mb end is white 8 pin.

The OP's PSU DP/N D1J02 is a Delta. here is a pic https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNjAw/z/KlEAAOSwNt1ahzjS/$_57.JPG?set_id=8800005007
it does not have any 8 pin ports. for the 8 pin CPU he uses a cable (red 6 pin psu side connector) to connect to CPU/MB (red port R7, R8, R9). the other end is industry standard white EPS 8 pin.
note the cables are designed with matching color codes (e.g., black psu side cable for GPU, white psu side for HDD/ODD)
that is why I believe the second cable from bottom is the one he needs for the ASUS. https://www.dell.com/community/image/serverpage/image-id/3980i1A6559BE11E16F15/image-size/large?v=1.0&px=999
Cass is the expert on this topic but we can not get his advice now.

ASUS ROG Z390-E strix has an 8 pin connector for CPU and require 8 pin cable for optimal operation.
Please send an actual pic of all available cables for your PSU. If you are missing the 8 pin CPU cable, you might be able to get a replacement.
