Alienware Aurora R7 safe CPU temperatures
Alienware Aurora R7
Hi,
I have an Alienware Aurora R7, and I am wanting to know the temperature range that is safe for the CPU?
Also, does Alien Thermal (or other software/hardware) prevent damage from occurring when the CPU gets to unsafe temperatures?
I ask this because when trying some video conversion software, my CPU load went to 100% with a temperature increase to 72C. I am wanting to know if the CPU is safe at 100% load and over 70C.
Thanks

1. The (Asetek) liquid-cooler should operate as required to hold the CPU temp around 70c. On either of my Auroras, I've never really seen the temp rise above 75c (even when encoding videos).
The Intel processor itself has the ability to "throttle back" to prevent melt-down, if for some reason, it's temp gets above 90c.
2a. This is normal and by-design.
2b. This is normal
2c. Yes.

What is the CPU in your system?

Intel® Core™ i7-8700K (6-Core/12-Thread, 12MB Cache, up to 4.7GHz w/ Intel® Turbo Boost Technology).

That processor has a Tjunction of 100 degrees Celsius, so 72 Celsius is within acceptable range.

If the Tjunction of 100 degrees Celsius is reached, does the Alienware Aurora R7 take action to prevent damage?

In short, no, because the protection is part of the CPU itself.
Information about Temperature for Intel® Processors
"It's unlikely that a processor would get damaged from overheating, due to the operational safeguards in place. Processors have two modes of thermal protection, throttling and automatic shutdown. When a core exceeds the set throttle temperature, it will reduce power to maintain a safe temperature level. The throttle temperature can vary by processor and BIOS settings. If the processor is unable to maintain a safe operating temperature through throttling actions, it will automatically shut down to prevent permanent damage. "

Thank you.
