Alienware Aurora Ryzen R10 memory upgrade

Purchased this in 2022 for Christmas present. It came with 16GB - 1 x 16GB, DDR4, 3466MHz, XMP item #370-AGOJ.

I want to upgrade the memory for Christmas. I was told it can only hold up to 64GB (4 x 16GB). It has one. Problem is, this part is out of stock. I don't want to step down from 3466MHz, but I have read that there are issues using none Dell products on this setup. In short I was trying to purchase 3 more 16GB sticks, plug and play with no complications. Can I use another brand that isn't an issue? Do I have to replace the original one as well? Is there any reason that he would notice if the replacements were 3200 MHz or 3400MHz? So much I do not know or understand and do not want to find out it won't work and have to try to return after Christmas, nor complicated changes to be done to set up.

Only guaranteed to work memory is the OEM memory. Do not mix and match memory modules from different vendors on these systems.

There are aftermarket memory modules that are known to work, linked in the thread above. However, they are not always plug and play and usually require a coin cell removal/insertion procedure to work properly once they are installed.

You will not notice the difference between 3400 and 3200, especially since you are going from a single memory dual to dual memory configurations, which comes with an uplift in performance.

@Vanadiel so, I am pretty much ignorant on what I am doing related to upgrading my sons gaming computer for Christmas, which we purchased for him last year. He wants to upgrade it and eventually put it in a new box. I upgraded

what I could afford at the time of purchase, last year.

Here is the build info.

Should I upgrade the memory. Up to what with what memory? It is all confusing...single, dual, 64 or 128 possible, motherboard capabilities, etc.

Should I upgrade something else, instead, or not bother, or? Anything to input on this would help me greatly. Originally I was looking at adding 3 more sticks of the same memory it has, but no stock. Alternatives...?

Please. Any insight you could provide would be awesome.

The best to do, since this is a gaming computer, is try to find another 16 GB OEM stick to make it 2 x 16 GB. That should be plenty for any gaming or other use. You can sometimes find them on Amazon or Ebay. Just have to make sure they are the exact same OEM part #.

Then you just pop it in in the second memory slot with the same color, and away you go.

@Kahlua69   upgrading to 32GB (2 x 16GB) dual channel memory will be a big improvement over single channel. What is the cooling solution for your CPU? . . . AIO liquid cooled or air cooled? Open up your son's rig and post a photo or 2 of the inside so we can see what he has going on.
