Aurora R1, multiple issues

Hi Guys,

New to Alienware and the Forum.

I picked up an old Aurora R1 in need of some tlc. After a strip down, clean and replacement cpu it is running. However I do have some problems:

Cpu is running at half speed

I cannot run command center

I cannot run OS recovery

Is there a copy of Windows 7 ultimate iso anywhere, so I can try a full reinstall?

Thanks in advance.

Edit,

forgot to add that the utility partition is missing.

@redxps630

changed cpu settings in bios. That's now sorted.

Still no joy with AWCC

and can't make a bootable usb of the utility It's asking for a stick of 2gb or less. Smallest I have is 8gb, if I create another partition it's not recognised by the utility.

I got the pc with no dvd writer. I do have a usb dvd drive. I'll have to pick that up when I'm next at home.

good that your cpu is now running normal clock frequency in HWmonitor.
I assume you mean the Dell diagnostic test utility.  I am not familiar w that.

follow this official guide to reset MIO.

Not sure if this has been solved or not but there are cheap i7 975 extreme CPU's all over amazon. i bought 2 1 for my r1 and a back up for when/if it out. when i tried getting this computer together a couple years ago it had sat and had some issues where i could not get the CPU to speed. i assumed it was messed up so i just swapped out to the 975. i have a spare 920 i could ship to you for free just cover shipping if you would like to try a different processor.

@nibrocmoore

Thank you for the very kind offer. I did manage to get a replacement cpu, so the pc is working.

I've got  fresh install of W10 and w7. The issue I'm having is that it's not recognising the mio. I've tried Al sorts of different combinations of installing drivers and CC but no joy.

I'll keep tryi for a little longer and see what I can do.

In Documents there is a Folder that contains your Alienware CC preferences. Locate it, rename it or delete it, then uninstall ACC, clean out registry, and then reinstall and build new settings.

If you determine board is damaged, just take a photo of card and cord placement to reference a new card install.

Thanks but that's not working.

It's totally confusing me. When the mio usb is connected I get a white interior light on,but no others. Disconnected that light is off but the alien head and bottom front lights are on in blue.

Unfortunately the mio you linked to doesn't post to the UK.

A new mio is expensive over here. I'm very close to selling it on as is or parting out the bits I know are working.

Take a picture of the MIO board with how you have the connections made so I can see how you have it wired.

Google,

V51MH Dell Alienware Aurora Master I/O Board Ver 1.1 MS-4194 0V51MH NEW!

to see if you can find a working link for a new board.

Updating to W10 is still free and may help resolve issue, but I think you may need a new board.

It looks like you might be missing one connection on the bottom. It would help some if the wires were organized away from the board.

Here is my picture. The only connector I have disconnected, for the purpose of being able to take a clear picture, is on top right - fourth connector from the right. It is the PCI fan and your board shows it connected.

What looks like is missing on your board is in the lower middle of the board directly above the White connector. Again hard to tell with your wires in the way but it looks like it is missing.

The one connector that appears to be missing are the Led lights. #22 ODD sensors. I believe it would control the fans bases on the sensors readings.

I also noticed the green (#25 front-default connector) is positioned differently. Remove and insert as shown on my picture below.

1. It case it was not clear from my posts and retro links above ...

Creating and using this bootable Diagnostic utility is the key to trouble-shooting/resetting the MIO-Board, and then being able to test all it's connected fans/leds from outside Windows (without a dependency on OS or setup).

2. There are various ways to work-around this if you care enough to.

@AAA737flyer

Thanks for taking the time to check it out, it's very much appreciated.

I hadn't got round to the cable management.

I'll take a look later, and let you know.

@AAA737flyer

OK I've connected the odd led and switch the jumper. Still no luck.

My last chance is a cable that I don't have connected. I've not seen it connected on any picture I've seen. If you don't mind could you have a look on yours?

It's on the same loom as the System Board Lighting #18

Thanks
