Aurora R10, 2 pins missing from cpu cable
I bought an 1000W psu off ebay for the alienware aurora r10 ryzen edition. I’m connecting the plugs and the cpu cable is missing the cables for 2 of the 8 plugs. i’m not too good with pc’s but i think im doing everything right. Is the missing pins the problem?

Go forward to 9:42 in the video. That R10 has the 8 wire EPS connector.
Steve does not like the R10, but that is a different story...

R10-11-12 mobo all have 8 pin cpu socket. Dell continues the unorthodox 6 pin trail

Now it could be that the R10 has 6 wire, while the second R10 has 8 wire. Steve's disassembly was the second R10.
Maybe that is the difference?
I know back then there was this big discussion because you could not upgrade the first R10 with the Ryzen 5000.
Maybe the key is the Ryzen 5000 board needed the 8 wire?

that is a good video find by Vanadiel. It actually showed a 8 pin brown/black cpu cable. but the psu in video is 550w which is same as OP's and is non modular. therefore the non modular psu has the standard orthodox 8 pin, meanwhile Dell wants to continue empty the stock of modular 850/1000w psu from R5-R9. Hey Dell knows by the end of R12, all these modular ATX psu are obsolete stockpile. R13 moves on to server type proprietary psu.

actually Vanadiel I think Dell had a good base psu 550w for R10 but did not design higher power psu with 8 pin. so they ingeniously off-label uses the 6 pin cable from R5-9 psu era in R10, knowing that the R5-9 motherboard are all 4 pin cpu and did not need 8 pin. That strange 6 pin was originally designed for PCIe power but Dell found it convenient to transplant it to 8 pin EPS in R10-12. ways to cut cost and befuddle AW hobbist. not to mention using Intel LGA1151 cooler for Ryzen cpu, a total Dell sloppy cost cutting feat. I a/w Steve. I know that R10 is last AW for Vanadiel too from past discussion. I would not mind having a used R10 board in my non-Dell case and use non-Dell standard psu. we will see.
HP omen Ryzen pc also uses intel cooler spacing btw

Well, I explained the story before on what happened when I transferred the RAM, CPU and GPU from the R10 into a retail build: 5 -10 % increased 3D performance. I only got the R10 because back then a retail 3080 cost almost as much as the whole R10.
I would not use an R10 board, it's not worth all the hassle.
The CPU and GPU are now in my sons retail build, and I upgraded my own retail build to a full AMD system. Seems Alienware is not even offering AMD builds anymore these days. Unfortunate, as they currently have the best gaming CPU out with the latest Ryzen models.

here is a pic I found where Dell used the same 6 pin cable to plug in R9 mobo proprietary GPU_PWR socket just north of PCIex16 slot

It's odd because on the R10 motherboard the header is labelled "ATX CPU Power" while on the R9 it is labelled "GPU_PWR"
Looks like they repurposed the cable for a different function on the R10, which is to provide power to the VRM section. The GPU power (75 Watt by PCIe standards), would come from the 24 Pin ATX connector. But it's possible on the R9 they sourced it either from that connector, or they needed more than 75 Watt for the GPU and used this connector as additional power rather than the traditional 6/8 pin that provides 75 Watt/150 Watt traditionally.
Which then brings me back to the difference on the R10 between 6 and 8 wires, as that would potentially indicate 75/150 Watt of extra power for the VRM section.
Then it would make sense the 65 Watt Ryzen CPU's would use the 6 PIN, and the 105 Watt Ryzen's would use the 8 PIN.
So possible it is dependent on the CPU used.
Maybe some Alienware engineer sees this thread and explains the finer details into that design decision. I have been trying to find this out for years lol.

Dell used same 6 pin cable for GPU_PWR in R8
in R7 or R6 if you have a basic psu, the GPU_PWR cable is 4 pin (4 wired out of 8 pin)
