Aurora R10, Bad Dell Support, Motherboard Replacement.
This discussion is going to be brief but bear with me. 7 months ago, I ordered a brand new Alienware R10. Ryzen 9 5900, 32 GB 3200 MHz memory, 1 TB NVME, 3060 TI. I hadn't had many problems since I received the machine besides your typical Windows problems, supportassist issues, etc. A couple of weeks ago my USB ports suddenly go out, my Wi-Fi Card just stops working and then one day i go to boot my PC and i get a black screen with blinking lights on the front. I have a premium support package which i bought through Dell. I email them back and forth, they tell me to run diagnostics, sfc, etc. (You know the procedure.) They end up diagnosing it's a bad motherboard, so they order one and send a tech out a couple of days later. The tech gets here, installs the motherboard correctly. Reseats everything correctly, applies everything pretty much flawlessly. Plugs the machine in and guess what.... RAM ports on the new motherboard they sent are faulty..... I mean i get refurbishing parts so I'm not going to complain much about that. What I am frustrated about is the fact that this machine was brand new 7 months ago, but you send a refurbished board that doesn't even work.... I mean who does that Dell? So now they have to send a second motherboard that will also probably be refurbished and I have to go through this process again. I paid the money, and the extra money for the service and this is what I get.... I honestly recommend building your own PC, if possible, given my experience the last couple of weeks, I will definitely be doing that on my next PC.

You definitely hit the mail on the head with that one. It is just the fact they send a replacement part that is faulty and probably hasn’t been tested. If it was they would have known it was defective. Congratulations Dell, your like every other company, cheap….

I had the mobo on my R10 replaced, the diagnostics was fast and easy : white smoke ,then, of course they replaced the motherboard and psu but it did work out ok. They only thing I could complain about was the amount of time it took .
But in life, you got to expect bad luck failures and deal with it.
Too bad they don't publish failure rates because it's only then, can one say it's overall bad
On the " replace motherboard" theme : to be sarcastic my favourite one is: format and clean install windows then replace mobo

Here is the event log, if you look at the dates of this log, I got this motherboard on the 10th of February….. so idk why you would send me a motherboard that was throwing this code. Good job dell

To provide an update to this, the tech guy came out to my house today to put in the second motherboard that they sent and this was the result of that
like I said, Dell you guys are doing a great job with this one let me tell you. 2 for 2 on strikeouts right now. At this point I’m beyond frustrated. I should get a full blown refund or replacement at this point. Idk how many faulty refurbished motherboards are in your inventory but maybe you should go check them out

I totally agree with that. We pay the money so it should be like that. I gave you the money to do your job correctly, not trial and error 10 times until you get it right. I still have 5 months of coverage on this machine. As soon as this thing gets operational, I’m selling it to whoever will buy it and building my own from the ground up. I tried to put my trust and defend this company from multiple individuals, but this really rubbed me the wrong way. I am canceling my account with them and won’t purchase from them again, which is sad because I have been an Alienware fan since I was a kid and dreamed of owning one for a long time

I was hoping it would be the other way around, as that might explain the cable issue you are experiencing on the refurbished board.
I guess on to board #3. Very interesting sequence of events.

If it were me, but I don't make the decisions, I would differentiate Alienware machines by making it part of the warranty policy that any repairs during the warranty period would be new components as opposed to refurbished.
I would leave it to the competition to use refurbished parts for warranty repairs.
Alas, it's not up to me. Hope you get it eventually sorted out and get a working machine.

Correct. It was rear ports and Wi-Fi card issues before. Never had a problem with the front

That's unfortunate, but I guess if the cable and possible I/O board is good, I guess it's another motherboard.
Although I am wondering, when the USB ports on the original board went out, where they the front USB boards?

Looks like the future is looking rather bleak for any company that is selling PC's. That usually means severe cutbacks etc...
This would for sure be the time to ensure you differentiate yourself from the competition and get a leg up on them. One of the ways of doing that is to spend money. Alas, most companies don't see it that way and start to cut back almost immediately at the first sign of a downward market trend.
Tech companies are not in a good position right now...

So the rear ports originally went out, but the front USB ports were working?
