What is the exact model of your system and what model CPU are you trying to install?

JOcean,
amwhipkey has the Aurora R10. Moved this thread out of the Alienware laptops board and into the Alienware Desktops board. I also fixed the titles.

If you purchased the R10 prior to 2021 with a 3000 series Ryzen CPU and you are upgrading to zen 3 (5000 series) that is not currently supported. The 2021 R10 Ryzen refresh has a different mobo revision with the updated base AGESA required for zen 3.

What was the original CPU in the board? If it was a Ryzen 3000 series and you are trying to install a Ryzen 5000 series in it, it will not work.
The R10 that supports the Ryzen 5000 CPU is a new revision of the motherboard, with a different bios that the original R10. For Ryzen 5000 support you need an updated Agesa version, and Dell has no bios for the "old" R10 that includes the updated Agesa version.
There's other threads on this board that explain it in more detail, with pictures of the difference between the boards.

Thanks for education on this. I have a faulty mobo (a memory slot stopped working, but it runs in single channel) and purchased a working mobo to replace it. The cpu I have is a Ryzen 7 3600x. The mobo I purchased had a 5000 series in it. When I installed the new mobo it would not post/boot up. Is it possible to make the 5000 series mobo work with the 3000 series chip?

I don't think your Ryzen 3600x will work in the 5000 series mobo you purchased. Since you already have the 5000 series mobo maybe just pick up a Ryzen 5600x for a nice little upgrade.

No, this is not possible due to the AGESA version. They do not offer the proper AGESA version that would support that range of CPU's, like normally would be the case with retail boards.

You should be safe with Ryzen 5000 Series processors . . . Ryzen 7000 Series will not work.
If you choose a 105 watt processor, consider AIO liquid cooling.

I appreciate you guys. So, will I be safe getting any AM4 processor above the 3000 series?

Ryzen 5000 will work fine, although I believer the 5800X3D is not supported.
The official list of supported processors is located here: R10 setup and specifications
The other thing that is confusing is this: "The mobo I purchased had a 5000 series in it. When I installed the new mobo it would not post/boot up"
Now that leads me to think there's another issue here, unless the board was provided without a CPU? What's the exact part # of the motherboard you purchased?
The R10 can be a bit confusing since there are actually 2 different R10 versions. So just to recap, Ryzen 3000 CPU's on the original R10, and Ryzen 5000 CPU's on the newer R10.
2 R10's, 2 different motherboards but they look very similar.
