Aurora R10, memory upgrade

Hi, I have ordered a R10 with the 3700x, RTX 2070 super and 16GB of RAM. If I remember correctly it’s the hyperX fury 2666Mhz.

Since I’ll be doing video editing I wanted to get the 32GB 3200Mhz but the cost of doing so on the Dell website  was significantly more than ordering the same RAM on Amazon...

I would like to order the RAM and I’m wondering if any 2X16GB 3200Mhx XMP kit work? Orb do you have recommendations for this Ryzen system? I found a couple of list for the other R systems but not specific to this motherboard so I would assume what is recommended/tested would be different.

And if that matters in your answer I actually don’t do much gaming at the moment but mainly video editing. I’m thinking 32GB would be enough for now but might consider getting another 32GB of the same memory later if needed. I had a look at the manual and it seems 4x16GB XMP would work.

@redxps630  Thanks, also would these be similar to what came with my R10?

HX432C16FB3K2/32
32GB (16GB 2G x 64-Bit x 2 pcs.)
DDR4-3200 CL16 288-Pin DIMM Kit

thats a klit from hyper x

Whats in mine is a hyper x i contacted them but they said i had to contact dell since alienware has their own but dell says its unavailable, so im just trying to get something similar

If I were you I would not change anything in bios for now and just install the new sticks then see what settings they will run.  you can use CPUZ to check under memory tab.  If system is stable then you may gingerly try XMP profiles one thing at a time make sure system stays stable over 12-24 hr.  The Dell XMP profile setting is only for Dell validated sticks and Dell bios has severe restriction on how much user can play with memory settings.

yes it will auto-recognize and choose what it thinks is the most stable settings for the new ram.

within bios you may see memory settings for option 2 or 1 or "auto".  auto is what you want for best stability.

ok so im guessing the computer will auto recognize new sticks? I'm not trying to overclock or anything, just trying to get to 32gb of ram safely lol

Just an update: I got 2 sticks of 32 GB 3200 MHz ram totaling 64 GB. Just installed, and they are working well at 2933 MHz.

Right now I have no plan to try to make it 3200. If I see someone achieve that, I might try that too.

@Zackhardtoname what brand did you go with?  In the same boat, so might just mirror you.

Hi just purchased the R10 Ryzen 7,  with RTX 2080S.

I chose 8gb ddr4 2666 hyperx fury with intention to upgrade it to 32GB (2x16GB) hyperX Fury XMP 3200 for $192.   I would install them on  Dim1 and Dim2 (white locks)

I also chose a 1TB HDD with intention of upgrading it to 2x SSD,  1TB  Samsung SSD 970 EVO boot disk and a SATA 1TB 860 game and media drive.

Everything work out well, except the DDR4 not performing at 3200.  It showed i only have  ram at 2934 mhz.

Have been trying to find out the solutions for last few hrs.

I am also interested in know an exact brand used. A link to Am#$%zon or what to cut and paste to search would be amazing!

Also how is the heat with these machines and is the storage (1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD) really cheapy? Some more expensive ones are double the speed maybe.

Thanks

Problem solved.   I turn on Overclock in bios,  then that unlock XMP , enable it.  Reboot.   it then conflict with command center causing it to freeze, had to end task it then reboot.   Repeat a few times and problem solved.  May have to turn overclock on and off every reboot.

Hey @Jaijairey I am sort of in the same situation as you. Just to be clear, the HyperX retail RAM that you bought at 3200MHz sets itself to 2933MHz on the "auto" setting in the BIOS and you don't have any stability or power problems when it's at 2933MHz. I am trying to upgrade the RAM myself by getting rid of the RAM that came with the system and installing my own (2x8gb @ 3200MHz) but I don't want to be in your situation where stuff starts to go wrong.

I know that technically the top-speed limit for the Aurora R10 is DDR4 3200, but I'm wondering if this DDR4 3600 RAM - G.SKILL Trident Z Neo (For AMD Ryzen) Series 32GB DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 - would also be compatible since it's specifically rated as compatible with the AMD 3000 series processors: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232861# - anyone know?

I think I'd be ok with the RAM only running at 3200, since it never hurts to run hardware at less-than redline levels as far as longevity and perhaps heat goes, but I don't want to buy something that wouldn't boot up at all.   And I definitely wouldn't want to run it at 2966 like a lot of users seem to be reporting with the 3200 RAM.

I'm also wondering if the lower CAS numbers (thinking of 14) on 3200 RAM would give that a speed advantage in the R10 over the CAS 16 numbers on the 3600 RAM...

Thoughts?
