Aurora R12, front panel power button and ring LED lights aren't working

Hi there,

I just got my first alienware delivered last Friday, its a dark chassis R12. As soon as I powered it up, I noticed that the power button and ring LED lights aren't working, no lights, see the picture below. The system can be powered up and running fine so far except all lights off, I have spent my entire weekend try to get the FX lights on and no luck.

What my attempts so far:

I really hope its not the hardware issue and I only have the basic warranty for this one. Could somebody please share some insights, much appreciated!!!

Could also be a loose cable, so it might be a quick fix. I am sure they will fix it up for you.

The lights should work either at the default setting, or the settings you customized for them. If you get nothing but the rest works, it is likely a warranty issue.

I would contact @DELL-Cares to check your warranty options.

You should not wait to long with this, as warranty and exchange options are time sensitive.

Alienhead power button should be lit at default color.  It is directly powered by 5V standby in psu even when pc is off but plugged in power.  If that is not, suspect hardware issue.

Thanks for replies. I called for technical support 2 hours ago, after the remote diagnosis, they opened a case for replacing the front panel, there're will be an on-site technician assigned. So it does look like a hardware issue, I will wait to see if that would solve the issue. I must say its definitely not a pleasant first time purchase experience. Thanks again and will keep posted.

It turned out to be a loose cable issue out of factory, lol. Nothing was replaced, the light for power button and ring is on. Thanks for the help.

Thank you for posting this, Idontwantanickname! I purchased an R12 in August 2021. When I opened it up in November 2021 to dust it, within a week or so the front panel lights (Alien Head & Oval) stopped working from one day to the next. I assumed it was a software update/issue. I used the tools available from Dell to diagnose the issue but no issues were found :^/   In December 2021, I moved to a new home and the lights were out of sight, out of mind (sort of, still annoying). I never reached out to Dell for tech services (I should have, it was under warranty!!!) Well, this afternoon, I decided to seek out a fix to the issue (no lights). I cleaned out all the dust bunnies (irrelevant) and then put my eyes on the LED wires that connect to the front panel's PCB. I then chased the LED wires/cable down to the motherboard connection, and there it was, the long-rectangular connector was partially engaged. I pushed it in all the way and now I have power at the front panel Alien head & Oval lights. It would be nice to see Dell/Alienware do a LED lights test, to determine if there is a SHORT or an OPEN in the circuit - very simple. Thanks again for your post! P.S. You only really need to swing out the power supply housing, the LED connection is at the lowest point of the motherboard, second connector from the back.

Yes! Your reply helped me - Thank you! The LED light 12-wire cable (P/N: 0JNP2, in case one needs a new cable) is pretty straight forward, it connects the motherboard (lowest point, second connection from the back at LED CON (P5600), between the AUDIO & FAN HDD connections) to the PCB (CON18, behind Alien head) on the front panel. There's plenty of slack to the front panel, but the cable is slack-deprived from the chassis clamp to the motherboard connection, and this was where I found the loose connector (at P5600), I just pushed it back in all the way. I almost missed it too, because the connector seemed like it was in all the way. If the connector rocks from left to right, it's not in all the way, push it in down the middle.
